Lesson 237: ”Now I would be as God created me.”
Reframe: I choose to be fully as I was meant to be — whole, complete, and free.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Christ is my eyes today, and He the ears that listen to the Voice for God today. ²Father, I come to You through Him Who is Your Son, and my true Self as well. ³Amen.” (ACIM, W-237.2:1-3)
OR… “I align with the Divine today.”
For Lessons 231-240: Salvation is the theme. Read the whole article here.
“The Thought of peace was given to God’s Son the instant that his mind had thought of war. ²There was no need for such a Thought before, for peace was given without opposite, and merely was. ³But when the mind is split there is a need of healing. ⁴So the Thought that has the power to heal the split became a part of every fragment of the mind that still was one, but failed to recognize its oneness. ⁵Now it did not know itself, and thought its own Identity was lost.”
“Salvation is undoing in the sense that it does nothing, failing to support the world of dreams and malice. ²Thus it lets illusions go.” (ACIM, W-pII.2.2:1–3:2)
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
I feel like my progress through the Lessons has been a slow climb up a spiral staircase—step by step, turn by turn. Sometimes I thought I’d circled back over an idea, only to realize I was looking at it again from a higher perspective. Now that we’re in Part II, the pace has picked up and the ideas have become more elevated.
Throughout the workbook, we’ve been told in various ways that we are as God and Love created us, that we are One with God. At one point we were told we are holy (Lesson 191). Depending on where I was on the spiral, I would either fully grasp the Lesson, understand it intellectually but lack belief in it, or find it confusing and trust that I’d eventually get it.
With this Lesson, we’re ready to embrace our Divinity—to take that leap of faith even when the ego projects resistance. For me, it feels like I’ve been climbing a tower stairwell and finally made it to the rooftop. From here I see a glorious 360º view that extends far beyond what my human eyes can see.
It reminds me of the scene from “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” where he has to take a “leap of faith,” trusting that steps will appear as he crosses the crevice.
In the case of this Lesson, the leap is recognizing that I’m already as God created me. To be and do as the Lesson says:
“Today I [accept] the truth about myself. ²I [arise] in glory, and allow the light in me to shine upon the world throughout the day. ³I bring the world the tidings of salvation which I hear as God my Father speaks to me. ⁴And I behold the world that Christ would have me see, aware it ends the bitter dream of death; aware it is my Father’s Call to me.” (ACIM, W-237.1:1-4)
With those words in mind, I went about my day intending to let my light shine. It started with a lovely 1.45-mile walk around my neighborhood. Perfect temperature. Wispy clouds draped across a clear blue sky. A roadside flagger turned her head toward me as I passed and said “hi.” I said it back and noticed her beautiful face. I complimented her, and her whole body lit up with joyful energy—as did mine for the rest of my walk. A perfect example of how giving and receiving are the same.
Afterwards, with that same feeling, I had a lovely session coloring today’s Mandala of the Week, then felt inspired to paint more on Archangel Mandala Number 3. Making progress.
But then came the news of Dolly Parton’s passing. A reminder that our existence here is temporary, no matter how loved and adored you are. Here was someone who lived the Course teachings—whether she knew ACIM or not. It was hard to think about shining my light when someone who exemplified love and light had passed.
Which brought me to a question: Do I want to suffer in sadness over this loss, or be inspired by her Divine Light to shine my own? Right now it feels like all the more reason for me to BE as God created me, because I serve no one by wallowing in suffering. How will I do that? By modifying a question I’ve used from previous Lessons:
“What would Dolly have me do right now?” And then choose that—because I know it’ll be in alignment with being as God created me.
“Today, instead of clinging to my old identity, I take Lesson 237 to heart.”
