Lesson 243: ”Today I will judge nothing that occurs.”
Reframe: I observe without judgment, allowing clarity to arise.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, today I leave creation free to be itself. ²I honor all its parts, in which I am included. ³We are one because each part contains Your memory, and truth must shine in all of us as one.” (ACIM, W-243.2:1-3)
OR… “Today, I let it be.”
For Lessons 241-250: What is the World? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The world is false perception. ²It is born of error, and it has not left its source. … The world was made as an attack on God. ²It symbolizes fear. ³And what is fear except love’s absence? … ⁵Yet everything that they report is but illusion which is kept apart from truth. … As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. ²Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world [that’s us]. ³Follow His light…Hear His Voice…let Him give you peace and certainty…⁴We must save the world.
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
From the Lesson:
”I will be honest with myself today. ²I will not think that I already know what must remain beyond my present grasp. ³I will not think I understand the whole from bits of my perception, which are all that I can see. ⁴Today I recognize that this is so.⁵And so I am relieved of judgments that I cannot make. ⁶Thus do I free myself and what I look upon, to be in peace as God created us.” (ACIM, W-243.1:1-6)
For me, it comes down to this: how can I judge anything when I’m only perceiving a small fraction of the whole picture? And if we’re talking about our human world—which the Course clearly states is an illusion—how can I judge any of it? It’s not real.
Today I treated this lesson like a game: let’s see how many times I can catch myself judging. When I did, I’d remind myself: “No judging. Just observing.” Or I’d use one of my favorite observer-mode retorts: “Hmm, that’s interesting.”
I noticed a difference between the two. “No judging” usually came after I was already well into the judging thoughts. But “that’s interesting” caught me right at the edge, just as I was about to trip. The recovery to peace was quicker with the latter.
I was amazed at how often I was in judgment mode. My hair looked wrong. I kept dropping things. My neighbor’s yard looked terrible. Every time, I’d tell myself “Nope, we’re just observing”—almost as many times as I said “That’s interesting” when I caught myself about to pass judgment.
Today was an eye-opener. Playing this game also showed me that when I caught or reframed the judgment, my body relaxed and I experienced peace each time. Which led to my aha moment: forgoing judgment leads each of us to be in peace as God created us.
“I just have to go back to the point where I made the erroneous decision and ask the Holy S to decide instead.”
