Lesson 252: ”The Son of God is my identity.”

Reframe: My true identity is love, awareness, and wholeness.

Suggested Practice: 

From now on: 
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day. 

Prayer For today: 
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“Father, You know my true Identity. ²Reveal It now to me who am Your Son, that I may waken to the truth in You, and know that Heaven is restored to me.” (ACIM, W-252.2:1-2)

OR… “Let me awaken to my true identity.”

Message

From the Lesson:

”My Self is holy beyond all the thoughts of holiness of which I now conceive. ²Its shimmering and perfect purity is far more brilliant than is any light that I have ever looked upon. ³Its love is limitless, with an intensity that holds all things within it, in the calm of quiet certainty. ⁴Its strength comes not from burning impulses which move the world, but from the boundless Love of God Himself. ⁵How far beyond this world my Self must be, and yet how near to me and close to God!” (ACIM, W-252.1:1-5)

In simple terms, this Lesson is asking me to declare:

“I identify as the Child of God, the Creation of the Creator, the Light of Light, the Love of Love.”

As far as the Course is concerned, to say anything other than that is of the ego.

So what does it feel like to make that declaration? Because of the last few Lessons, I was surprised by how little resistance came up. Doing those practices made it easier to follow the thread of these Lessons, so flat-out declaring my identity as the Son of God felt like a natural progression—I understand it and feel the truth of it.

Juni, my name for my ego mind, is amazingly quiet. She may be waiting for a weaker moment to hit me with her protest thoughts. She’s been in charge for a large portion of my life, and I know she’s not going to give it up easily. Over these last 250+ days, we’ve been doing this dance—her in charge, then me. Lately the scales have begun tipping toward the Divine Mind side. Now that I’m more aware of her, she’s easier to spot—which means she may try to be sneakier. Until eventually, she’s a distant memory.

One thing helping me here: several Lessons ago I adopted a new mantra—no judging, just observing. That’s where I am with today’s Lesson. I’m not judging it. I’m just observing what’s going on inside, with thoughts like “hmmm…that’s interesting. In some ways I feel like the energy of this statement may be too much for my simple body to fully embrace.”

Not sure I’m fully on board, but I like where this is going. It would make a world of difference in my human life to live from this perspective. I’m pretty sure I’d let very little, if anything, stop me from going after whatever I want to create for myself in this lifetime—because I know my strength comes from the boundless Love of God Himself.
