Lesson 263: ”My holy vision sees all things as pure.”
Reframe: I choose to see the inherent goodness in all things.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, Your Mind created all that is, Your Spirit entered into it, Your Love gave life to it. ²And would I look upon what You created as if it could be made sinful? ³I would not perceive such dark and fearful images. ⁴A madman’s dream is hardly fit to be my choice, instead of all the loveliness with which You blessed creation; all its purity, its joy, and its eternal, quiet home in You.” (ACIM, W-263.1:1-4)
OR… “I look upon all that I see with higher vision.”
For Lessons 261-270: What is the body? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The body is a fence the Son of God imagines he has built, to separate parts of his Self from other parts.”… The body is a dream. ²Like other dreams it sometimes seems to picture happiness, but can quite suddenly revert to fear, where every dream is born. ³For only love creates in truth, and truth can never fear. ⁴Made to be fearful, must the body serve the purpose given it. ⁵But we can change the purpose that the body will obey by changing what we think that it is for… The body is the means by which God’s Son returns to sanity …³The Son of God extends his hand to reach his brother, and to help him walk along the road with him. ⁴Now is the body holy. ⁵Now it serves to heal the mind…³Your safety lies in truth, and not in lies. ⁴Love is your safety. ⁵Fear does not exist. ⁶Identify with love, and you are safe.⁷Identify with love, and you are home. ⁸Identify with love, and find your Self.
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
Today’s Lesson reminds me of Lesson 2: “I have given all that I see…all the meaning it has for me.” That Lesson introduced the idea that I am responsible for how I interpret what I see. 261 Lessons later, I now know it was my ego mind assigning that meaning. Now I’m invited to use my holy vision—from my Divine mind’s perspective—to see all things as pure.
With that in mind, I went about my day. The practice was easy during my morning walk. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear, birds were singing, and some trees are already starting to change colors. It was all beautiful. I could feel the pureness in the moment.
Then I walked by a neighbor’s house where debris was strewn over the front lawn and trash and discarded toys were lying in the back of the driveway. My first challenge. My ego mind immediately went into judgy mode—ranting as if talking to someone who would sympathize with my “horrible” plight of having such “horrible” neighbors. That’s when I noticed my peace was gone.
I stopped, took a deep breath, and used one of my go-to mantras: “no judging—just observing.” This calmed my mind long enough to remember today’s practice. From my ego’s perspective I heard, “How am I supposed to see this as pure?” Again I returned to the mantra and asked myself, “What would Divine mind see here?” In that moment, the thought “It is what it is” popped in. Hearing that, I was able to be neutral about the yard. No other meaning needed to be attached. I could be at peace with it and tell myself, “That’s their choice. For me, I can choose peace.” Whether that’s seeing it as pure, I’m not sure I’m there yet.
If anything, that experience reminded me to practice on my own yard, which is currently a work in progress.
For me, the mundane yard was my practice today—a perfect example of how the size of the practice doesn’t matter. The shift can happen whether it’s a yard or a whole planet.
“It allows me to see beyond appearances. It allows me to see beyond lack and limitation. It allows me to see the reality that is covered up with my distorted thinking.”
