Lesson 266: ”My holy Self abides in you, God’s Son.”
Reframe: The true essence of all beings is love and wholeness.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, You gave me all Your Sons, to be my saviors and my counselors in sight; the bearers of Your holy Voice to me. ²In them are You reflected, and in them does Christ look back upon me from my Self. ³Let not Your Son forget Your holy Name. ⁴Let not Your Son forget his holy Source. ⁵Let not Your Son forget his Name is Yours. (ACIM, W-266.1:1-5)
OR… “We are all one in Light.”
For Lessons 261-270: What is the body? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The body is a fence the Son of God imagines he has built, to separate parts of his Self from other parts.”… The body is a dream. ²Like other dreams it sometimes seems to picture happiness, but can quite suddenly revert to fear, where every dream is born. ³For only love creates in truth, and truth can never fear. ⁴Made to be fearful, must the body serve the purpose given it. ⁵But we can change the purpose that the body will obey by changing what we think that it is for… The body is the means by which God’s Son returns to sanity …³The Son of God extends his hand to reach his brother, and to help him walk along the road with him. ⁴Now is the body holy. ⁵Now it serves to heal the mind…³Your safety lies in truth, and not in lies. ⁴Love is your safety. ⁵Fear does not exist. ⁶Identify with love, and you are safe.⁷Identify with love, and you are home. ⁸Identify with love, and find your Self.
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
From the Lesson:
“This day we enter into Paradise, calling upon God’s Name and on our own, acknowledging our Self in each of us; united in the holy Love of God. ²How many saviors God has given us! ³How can we lose the way to Him, when He has filled the world with those who point to Him, and given us the sight to look on them?” (ACIM, W-266.2:1-3)
This Lesson is a tough one for me. I the point its making and I strive to live this way but it’s not happening for me today, at least not in full. It’s one thing to go out in nature and see the Love and Peace of God everywhere. It’s another thing apply it with other people, especially the part about see others as saviors. Again, I get what it’s saying. In practice it’s challenging for me.
Let me explain. I’m beginning to realize that my ego mind is most triggered and most active when it comes to being around other people. Ideally, I want them to be courteous, caring, and considerate of me and others. As well as being peaceful and kind. Since we all have free will, interacting with other people opens a world of uncertainty—basically a crap shoot.
Because of this uncertainty, my ego mind is on alert for anyone who might be discourteous and inconsiderate. Knowing this, today I set an intention to see others people as saviors God has given me by going to Costco, a mecca for uncertain interactions.
Before I was even a mile away from home, my ego mind got triggered by another driver who sped up as I was trying to merge into the lane they were in. Instead of slowing down to go behind them, as my Divine mind would have had me do, I let my ego mind hit the gas pedal, speed past them, and get in front of them. Sure the ego mind was thrilled at the victory but I sacrificed my peace in the process.
So I did what always helps me return to peace: shifted my focus to observer mode, took a deep breath, forgave myself for losing my peace, and reminded myself of today’s Lesson, see others as saviors and our connection with Self. Once centered and still driving to Costco, I asked myself: how was that other driver my savior? It took a moment and then it came to me. I got to witness two ego minds in action: the other driver for purposefully speeding up so I wouldn’t get in front of them and me for taking on an “I’ll show you” attitude to do exactly that. Catching this awareness within a few minutes of it happening is a miracle for me. In the past I would have harbored resentment for hours before calming down. That’s when the song “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” started playing in my head. Of course it did. It became a perfect theme song for the rest of the day.
For the remainder of my drive and while at Costco, every time I could feel my ego mind ready to ponce on what other people were doing, I kept reminding myself of how they are my saviors and we are all of the Self. It wasn’t always easy. Some people were more skilled at being ego-minded saviors. However, with this new awareness it also became much easier to recognize and appreciate those who were thoughtful and caring.
My takeaway had a bit of a twist today. When I’m around people who are helpful and kind, it’s easy to see them as saviors and acknowledge our connection to Self. The challenge becomes seeing others who are not and still be able to do the same. Once I saw how ego mind played out today, it was to understand this Lesson, and will become easier to live it going forward.
“I hate when this happens. When lessons like 266 insist all nimrods in my life are saviors in disguise.”
