Lesson 267: ”My heart is beating in the peace of God.”

Reframe: My heart aligns with love, stillness, and inner calm.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“Let me attend Your Answer, not my own. ²Father, my heart is beating in the peace the Heart of Love created. ³It is there and only there that I can be at home.” (ACIM, W-267.2:1-3)

OR… “Let my heart be at peace.”

For Lessons 261-270: What is the body? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The body is a fence the Son of God imagines he has built, to separate parts of his Self from other parts.”… The body is a dream. ²Like other dreams it sometimes seems to picture happiness, but can quite suddenly revert to fear, where every dream is born. ³For only love creates in truth, and truth can never fear. ⁴Made to be fearful, must the body serve the purpose given it. ⁵But we can change the purpose that the body will obey by changing what we think that it is for… The body is the means by which God’s Son returns to sanity …³The Son of God extends his hand to reach his brother, and to help him walk along the road with him. ⁴Now is the body holy. ⁵Now it serves to heal the mind…³Your safety lies in truth, and not in lies. ⁴Love is your safety. ⁵Fear does not exist. ⁶Identify with love, and you are safe.⁷Identify with love, and you are home. ⁸Identify with love, and find your Self.

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

From the Lesson:

“Surrounding me is all the life that God created in His Love. ²It calls to me in every heartbeat and in every breath; in every action and in every thought. ³Peace fills my heart, and floods my body with the purpose of forgiveness. ⁴Now my mind is healed, and all I need to save the world is given me. ⁵Each heartbeat brings me peace; each breath infuses me with strength. ⁶I am a messenger of God, directed by His Voice, sustained by Him in love, and held forever quiet and at peace within His loving Arms. ⁷Each heartbeat calls His Name, and every one is answered by His Voice, assuring me I am at home in Him.” (ACIM, W-267.1:1-7)

This is beautiful. This what I’m striving to achieve 24/7. Yet, not today. Why? Because today was a “slip” for me in that I was mostly in ego mind from the moment I woke up until I went for a late afternoon walk and then sat down to color today’s section of this week’s Mandala of the Week.

Let me be clear, I don’t recall consciously choosing ego mind, I just let it be my default mode for most of the day. So what did that look like for me? I was mostly on automatic pilot. I got up, went to the bathroom, then made my bed, and reheated some white tea. From there it was mostly a blur. I did my daily brain games in my Elevate app, spent about 20 minutes doing my next online French lesson, ate breakfast, printed this week’s Mandala of the Week, posted it on social media, and so on. Nothing extraordinary. No upheavals. No triggers. Everything was on a steady but not fully aware keel.

It wasn’t until I went on my 1.5 mile walk and pondered today’s Lesson that I realized how subtle the ego mind can be. I wasn’t feeling at peace but I wasn’t upset either—I just felt blah, maybe even borderline depressed. So I pondered some more, both the Lesson and what I was feeling. That’s when I heard my Inner Voice say to me “You can always change your mind.” Now normally when I hear a thought that starts with “you” it’s usually my ego mind. This felt different, it almost felt whimsical as if to say “Well, if you don’t want to feel this way, you can always change your mind.”

Yes! We are blessed with free will and with that we can change our minds. I can change my mind, I can choose Divine mind. I can choose to let my heart beat in the peace of God. Just knowing I can do that made me feel a bit lighter, both inside and in my step. Yes, that’s what I want: the peace of God.

When I finished my walk, without any ego mind thoughts to interfere, I went right to my studio and did my coloring for today, feeling much more aligned with the idea that “I am a messenger of God, directed by His Voice”.

My takeaway today is twofold: the ego mind can show up in subtle ways so it behooves me to be aware of who’s mind is leading the way and remembering that I can always change my mind especially when it comes to choosing peace.

“I am love. I’m here to love. My only purpose is to be love.”
