Lesson 269: ”My sight goes forth to look upon Christ’s face.”
Reframe: I turn my attention to love, clarity, and what is eternal.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“I ask Your blessing on my sight today. ²It is the means which You have chosen to become the way to show me my mistakes, and look beyond them. ³It is given me to find a new perception through the Guide You gave to me, and through His lessons to surpass perception and return to truth. ⁴I ask for the illusion which transcends all those I made. ⁵Today I choose to see a world forgiven, in which everyone shows me the face of Christ, and teaches me that what I look upon belongs to me; that nothing is, except Your holy Son.” (ACIM, W-269.1:1-5)
OR… “Let me see the Light in others as well as myself.”
For Lessons 261-270: What is the body? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The body is a fence the Son of God imagines he has built, to separate parts of his Self from other parts.”… The body is a dream. ²Like other dreams it sometimes seems to picture happiness, but can quite suddenly revert to fear, where every dream is born. ³For only love creates in truth, and truth can never fear. ⁴Made to be fearful, must the body serve the purpose given it. ⁵But we can change the purpose that the body will obey by changing what we think that it is for… The body is the means by which God’s Son returns to sanity …³The Son of God extends his hand to reach his brother, and to help him walk along the road with him. ⁴Now is the body holy. ⁵Now it serves to heal the mind…³Your safety lies in truth, and not in lies. ⁴Love is your safety. ⁵Fear does not exist. ⁶Identify with love, and you are safe.⁷Identify with love, and you are home. ⁸Identify with love, and find your Self.
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
This lesson asks me to look upon Christ’s face in others. That’s challenging for me, and here’s why. I was raised in a strict religious home, church, and school, where Christ was the holiest of holies. So looking at another person and attaching Christ’s face to them feels like sacrilege. I used “Divine Light” instead—same idea, but it lets me practice the lesson without tripping that wire.
With the terminology settled, I went for my daily walk. I came across more people than usual, which gave me more chances to practice. What interested me was that my ego mind spotted people first. I could tell because a judgment would arise before I remembered, “Oh yeah, I’m supposed to see their Divine Light.”
A couple blocks in, I saw a father and his two kids about to go for a bike ride. The father rode ahead without realizing his kids were struggling to get started. I watched for about 30 seconds as he went further up the block, never looking back. My ego mind went into high gear: “He’s totally ignoring his kids.” “He doesn’t care if they’re struggling.” “He probably wishes he didn’t have to ride with them.” That last thought was harsh enough to get my attention. I stopped, took a deep breath, and asked to see the situation differently. It was as if I removed filters blocking my view. I could see him in a brighter light. Then he stopped, looked back, and watched as his kids caught up. I continued my walk in peace.
I’m not sure I actually recognized the Divine Light in that case, but I reinforced the idea that he is of the Light, and it stopped my ego’s judgment. That’s a step in the right direction. One thing I noticed: when I’m not present, ego mind is in charge by default. Because of that, it takes extra steps to recognize the Divine Light in others. It goes: I see someone, I make a judgment, I catch the judgment, realize I’m in ego mind, stop, take a breath, choose Divine mind, see the person anew, then acknowledge their Divine Light. That’s several extra steps. If I were automatically in Divine mind, it would just be: I see someone, I recognize their Divine Light.
Today I realized that being in Divine mind makes it so much easier to recognize the Divine Light in others.
“Christ’s face, in this instance, is a pattern of high-energy photons that your thoughts are going to retrieve and transform into love.”
