Lesson 271: ”Christ’s is the vision I will use today.”

Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:

“Father, Christ’s vision is the way to You. ²What He beholds invites Your memory to be restored to me. ³And this I choose, to be what I would look upon today.” (ACIM, W-271.2:1-3)

From the Lesson:
“Each day, each hour, every instant, I am choosing what I want to look upon, the sounds I want to hear, the witnesses to what I want to be the truth for me. ²Today I choose to look upon what Christ would have me see, to listen to God’s Voice, and seek the witnesses to what is true in God’s creation.“ (ACIM, W-271.1:1-2)
We’re reminded that we’re always choosing—every minute of every day—what we look upon. That’s the gift and the burden of free will. We can choose to see everything from a place of fear, suffering, and grievances (the ego mind’s domain), or from a place of peace, love, and joy (the Divine mind’s domain)—which is seeing with Christ’s vision.
Some situations are easier for me to see with Christ vision: being out in nature, hanging out with family and friends, creating my art. Others are harder: sitting in traffic, dealing with a difficult person, watching the news. In those, it’s challenging to see or feel peace, love, and joy.
Today, for instance, I joined a Zoom session knowing the host—call him Jim—would have trouble focusing because he’s been going through a lot in his personal life. Part of me didn’t want to attend, knowing he’d talk more about his situation than the intended topic, and that listening would be uncomfortable and responding would be hard.
I also knew those thoughts were coming from my ego mind. So I called on Divine mind for Its take, which turned out to be: take the call. As soon as I asked, the resistance gave way to surrender—a quiet sense that I could meet him where he is. I set my intention to attend with Christ vision. Just as I thought, Jim spent most of the time sharing what he’s going through. But instead of feeling anxious, I sat peacefully and listened. Questions and responses came easily. A couple of times I went into observer mode—my neutral space where I can watch what’s playing out without reacting—noticing how beautiful the exchange was and how it didn’t matter that we were off topic. It felt perfectly appropriate. We even laughed together.
I’d like to think I helped Jim by letting him share. What I didn’t expect was how good I felt afterward. I was glad I took the call—not just because it went well, but because I witnessed It in action.
