Lesson 276: ”The Word of God is given me to speak.”

Reframe: I speak from clarity, truth, and love in every moment.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

““Father, Your Word is mine. ²And it is this that I would speak to all my brothers, who are given me to cherish as my own, as I am loved and blessed and saved by You.” (ACIM, W-276.2:1-2)

OR… “Let me speak truth and love today.”

For Lessons 271-280: What is the Christ? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ is God’s Son as He created Him. ²He is the Self we share, uniting us with one another, and with God as well. ³He is the Thought which still abides within the Mind that is His Source. ⁴He has not left His holy home, nor lost the innocence in which He was created. ⁵He abides unchanged forever in the Mind of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.6.1:1-5).

OR put another way…

”We are all of the Light, created by the Light, united with the Light and one another in the Light. Be the Light.”

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

From the Lesson:

“What is the Word of God? ²“My Son is pure and holy as Myself.” ³And thus did God become the Father of the Son He loves, for thus was he created…we need but to acknowledge Him Who gave His Word to us in our creation, to remember Him and so recall our Self.”  (ACIM, W-276.1:1-7)

For most of my life, I’ve heard it said that the contents of the bible is considered the Word of God. Where I’ve struggled with that idea, long before studying the Course, is figuring out which part of the bible do people mean and which version of the bible. According to Google, the general consensus is that there are over 900 versions in the English language alone. And depending on which part of the bible you read, the “Word” varies dramatically between the old and new testaments.

With today’s Lesson we learn that the Word of God is that we are as pure and holy as God, just as He created us. With acknowledging and remembering His Word, we acknowledge and remember our True Self.

How does that translate practically? When I find myself feeling blah, upset, or anything but peaceful, I know I’ve let myself forget about the Word of God. For instance, of late, I’ve been catching myself in this blah, what’s the point, almost lethargic state of mind which I now understand to be a more subtle approach my ego mind has been with its thought.

This brings to mind is that scene from the movie “The Wizard of Oz” where the wicked witch of the west casts a spell over a field of poppies in front of the Emerald City. Excited about being so close to their destination, they run through the field which eventually puts them to sleep halfway across it. That’s what I feel like the ego mind thoughts do to me.

Like yesterday, I spent a good part of the day mindlessly being distracted by everything but what I really want to do. It wasn’t until my husband came home that I realized I was under its spell. In the movie, Glenda the good witch makes it snow over the heroes to help wake them up. For me it was choosing to listen to Divine mind and being excited to go out to my studio and paint—my Emerald City.

Learning that the Word of God is not a book full of words but an idea, that we are pure and holy, whole and complete. And as for the “speaking” part, I think of the adage “actions speak louder than words.” In that vain, then, I take that as more than talking about today’s idea but actually living it, living our lives like the pure and holy beings that we are.
