Lesson 279: ”Creation’s freedom promises my own.”
Reframe: The Truth reflects the freedom within me.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“I will accept Your promises today, and give my faith to them. ²My Father loves the Son Whom He created as His Own. ³Would You withhold the gifts You gave to me?” (ACIM, W-279.2:1-3)
OR… “I accept the gift of freedom inherent in me.”
For Lessons 271-280: What is the Christ? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ is God’s Son as He created Him. ²He is the Self we share, uniting us with one another, and with God as well. ³He is the Thought which still abides within the Mind that is His Source. ⁴He has not left His holy home, nor lost the innocence in which He was created. ⁵He abides unchanged forever in the Mind of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.6.1:1-5).
OR put another way…
”We are all of the Light, created by the Light, united with the Light and one another in the Light. Be the Light.”
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

These lines from the Lesson caught my attention today:
“The end of dreams is promised me, because God’s Son is not abandoned by His Love. … And now is freedom his already. ⁵Should I wait in chains which have been severed for release, when God is offering me freedom now?” (ACIM, W-279.1:1-5)
This had me pondering the definition of freedom as it relates to the Course. Since I couldn’t find it anywhere in its teachings, I went with what freedom means to me: freedom from the rule of the ego mind and its limiting, fearful, and debilitating thoughts. That would be absolute heaven. Why? Because without those thoughts, I can be peaceful, joyful, and loving, just as God created me.
I know I’ve shared these thoughts in previous posts, but they’re worth repeating. In the last few weeks, the concept of examining and eliminating my limiting thoughts has surfaced demanding attention. It came up in a recent online class, in a group Zoom session, in some of my recent posts, and in a channeled reading I did last week. I’m a firm believer that if an idea shows up multiple times in multiple ways, I need to pay attention.
Examples of some of my limiting thoughts: “It’s too much work,” “Why bother,” “I’ll do it later,” “Other people do things better than I do,” “I’m not good with marketing my business,” “I’m afraid people won’t buy what I have to offer,” “I’m afraid what I have to offer isn’t good enough,” “I don’t think I can make a living as an artist,” and so on. None of these feel peaceful, joyful, or loving.
What gives me hope is knowing these thoughts all came from my ego mind. They are not my thoughts. They are not Divine mind’s thoughts. So I don’t have to accept them as real. It reminds me of how the Course begins:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
The ego mind and its thoughts are not real. God’s will of perfect happiness for us is real. God’s gifts of peace, love, and joy are real. Knowing I am as God created me, whole and complete just as I am—that’s real. It’s real for all of us.
So what do I do about the ego’s limiting thoughts? I can notice them, acknowledge them for what they are, then ask God to help me override them with a reframed version. For instance, if I catch myself thinking “People won’t buy what I have to offer,” I can stop what I’m doing and take a deep breath to ground myself in the present moment. Tell the thought: “You came from my ego mind—so you’re not real, you’re not the truth.”
Then I can ask God to help me state it differently. I could ask for a slight shift that might be easier to embrace, such as: “It’s possible that people want to buy what I have to offer.” Or I could ask for a dramatic shift: “People want to buy what I have to offer.” Either way, the ego thought has been overridden with a Divine thought—freeing me from the limitation.
By rejecting the ego’s debilitating thoughts and accepting God’s gifts, I experience freedom now — not just freedom from limitation, but freedom for the creative, loving expression that is my true nature. And it was mine all along. The limitation was never real; I only thought it was.
“God’s will, for those still scarred by pillars of slat and lion’s dens, is unceasing joy.”
