Lesson 282: ”I will not be afraid of love today.”
Reframe: I open myself to love fully, without fear.

Message
From the Lesson:
“If I could realize but this today, salvation would be reached for all the world. ²This the decision not to be insane, and to accept myself as God Himself, my Father and my Source, created me. ³This the determination not to be asleep in dreams of death, while truth remains forever living in the joy of love. ⁴And this the choice to recognize the Self Whom God created as the Son He loves, and Who remains my one Identity.” (ACIM, W-282.1:1-4)
It took me a while to process this paragraph since it appeared to have a grammatical error. Sentences 2, 3, and 4 looked like they were missing the verb “is.” After mulling it over, it came to me that this Lesson was giving us a recipe for how salvation would be reached for all the world (sentence 1).
Sentences 2, 3, and 4 are the ingredients:
- Accept myself as God created me.
- Determine not to be asleep in the ego’s illusions (dreams of death).
- Choose to recognize our one true identity in the Self God created as His Son.
How does that work practically? For me, it means paying attention to how I feel. If I’m feeling any form of fear (anger, frustration, etc.), then I know I’ve accepted the ego’s perspective and fallen asleep to its illusions. I take that moment to stop, breathe, and remember that I am as God created me—whole, complete, and one with the Self. Usually that means reciting a phrase inspired by the Course, most often “I am the Light of God, whole and complete just as I am.” This simple change in mindset is enough to shift me from ego mind to Divine mind. Instead of feeling stuck, I feel uplifted and inspired to do things I love: paint, go for a walk, or hang out with friends.
Regarding the Lesson’s title. At first it didn’t resonate. Who would be afraid of love? Thinking about it now, I see it differently. As humans we’re so wrapped up in ego mind that we don’t realize that’s what we’re doing—and that translates to being afraid of love. And really, it isn’t us who’s afraid. It’s the ego. Ego mind thrives on fear, so love is its kryptonite. It would have us fear love because love means its demise.
My takeaway: if I follow these guidelines, I will not be afraid of love. If we all follow them, salvation will be reached for all the world.
