Lesson 283: ”My true identity abides in You.”

“Father, I made an image of myself, and it is this I call the Son of God. ²Yet is creation as it always was, for Your creation is unchangeable. ³Let me not worship idols. ⁴I am he my Father loves. ⁵My holiness remains the light of Heaven and the Love of God. ⁶Is not what is beloved of You secure? ⁷Is not the light of Heaven infinite? ⁸Is not Your Son my true Identity, when You created everything that is?” (ACIM, W-283.1:1-8)

Message
For me, today was about remembering and claiming the idea of my true identity, that I am a Child of God. I am Light. I am Love. I am infinite. I am whole and complete. I’m a holy creation just as God created me. I am one with God and all of His creations—the Son of God.
At this point in the Course I feel like the Lessons are repeating the same ideas and principles from slightly different angle as way to steadily acclimate us to our true identity. Up until now, which for me has been decades, we’ve been unconsciously following the ego‘s lead and operating in fear mode. However, by practicing all of these Lessons, we’re pulling back the curtain on the ego’s illusions and seeing the truth about ourselves. The repetition reinforces the teachings.
How that looked for me today was regularly reciting to myself either the Lesson title, or any of the statements I listed at the beginning. A couple of months ago this would have felt awkward. Who am I to equate myself to God in that or any way? Doing the daily practices has gradually unveiled the truth, making it easier for me to align with them. Where before I didn’t feel it was possible and felt some resistance, now I feel more uplifted and inspired to pursue my art more and allow myself to feel peace, love, and joy.
I’ve come to realize that I’m more likely to be in my studio painting and creating when I embrace my true identity.
