26-294 My Body is a Wholly Neutral Thing

Lesson 294 ”My body is a wholly neutral thing.”

Reframe: My body is a neutral tool, it carries no judgment of its own.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“My body, Father, cannot be Your Son. ²And what is not created cannot be sinful nor sinless; neither good nor bad. ³Let me, then, use this dream to help Your plan that we awaken from all dreams we made.” (ACIM, W-294.2:1-3)

OR… “My body is neutral.”

For Lessons 291-300: What is the Real World? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”The real world is a symbol, like the rest of what perception offers. ²Yet it stands for what is opposite to what you made.³Your world is seen through eyes of fear, and brings the witnesses of terror to your mind. ⁴The real world cannot be perceived except through eyes forgiveness blesses, so they see a world where terror is impossible, and witnesses to fear can not be found. (ACIM, W-pII.8.1:1-4).

OR put another way…

”The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace.”

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

From the Lesson:

« Let me not see it more than this today; of service for a while and fit to serve, to keep its usefulness while it can serve, and then to be replaced for greater good. »   (ACIM, W-294.1:9-10)

I tend to forget this Course principle about our bodies because I get so caught up in day-to-day activities that require their use: hauling myself out of bed, getting dressed, going for a walk, doing household chores, and making art.

Today’s Lesson is a gentle reminder that the body I reside in is only temporary housing. To reinforce this idea, I stood in front of a full-length mirror and repeated aloud, “My body is neutral.”

It felt weird at first because I’m usually harshly judgmental about my body, mainly its excess weight and the signs of aging. But when I looked at it as neutral, the judgments began to fade. I found myself asking, “How can I judge my body for doing what it does? It just is.”

My takeaway is realizing that I’ve been using my body as another reason to judge myself and determine my worth. It’s easy to fall into this trap when we’re constantly exposed to messages about how our bodies should look. But why should my weight or the signs of aging determine how I feel about myself?

I’m going to continue repeating, “My body is neutral. I am not my body,” whenever I see my reflection in a mirror. It’s a gentle reminder that my body does not define who I am, and its appearance does not determine my worth.

“Our bodies…are wholly neutral. Without our stories, without thoughts of fear, our bodies serve as useful vehicles as long as they’re needed.” — “The Course in Miracles Experiment” by Pam Grout
