Lesson 293 ”All fear is past and only love is here.”
Reframe: Fear no longer has power, only love and presence remain.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, let not Your holy world escape my sight today. ²Nor let my ears be deaf to all the hymns of gratitude the world is singing underneath the sounds of fear. ³There is a real world which the present holds safe from all past mistakes. ⁴And I would see only this world before my eyes today.” (ACIM, W-293.2:1-4)
OR… “My real power is love.”
For Lessons 291-300: What is the Real World? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”The real world is a symbol, like the rest of what perception offers. ²Yet it stands for what is opposite to what you made.³Your world is seen through eyes of fear, and brings the witnesses of terror to your mind. ⁴The real world cannot be perceived except through eyes forgiveness blesses, so they see a world where terror is impossible, and witnesses to fear can not be found. (ACIM, W-pII.8.1:1-4).
OR put another way…
”The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace.”
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
From the Lesson:
“Can the world seem bright and clear and safe and welcoming, with all my past mistakes oppressing it, and showing me distorted forms of fear?” (ACIM, W-293.1:3)
My answer is no. Seven decades on this planet have taught me that much. For most of those decades, though, I was unconscious of this truth. Sure, I had happy times—graduating high school and college, my first marriage, my first divorce, my second marriage. My travels to Egypt, Paris, Ireland, and across the United States were definitely high points.
But looking back, I realize that along with the happiness came a quiet fear lingering in the background, waiting for something to ruin it. Like waiting for the other shoe to drop. While I was happy, part of me was on the lookout for something to go wrong. The ego mind always seemed to come along for the ride.
Since starting the Course this year, I’m becoming clearer on the ego mind’s tactics—its wants and needs. For instance, I’m planning a trip, and thoughts like these pop up: “Are you sure it’s safe to travel?” “Wouldn’t it be better to stay home?” “What if something bad happens while you’re away?” These are valid questions, but when I look at them through Divine mind’s perspective, I can address them calmly: “I’m taking precautions with safety in mind.” “This trip offers me a chance to have fun and meet new people.” “Something bad could happen no matter where I am, so I’d rather focus on the good that can happen.”
For today’s practice, I put my action idea from yesterday’s Lesson into play with a slight alteration. Yesterday I said I’d set my smartwatch to go off every hour as a reminder to stop, breathe, and tell myself “slow down.” This routine helps me stay present and reminds me that I have a choice: fear (ego mind) or love (Divine mind). Since I had a lot of prep work today, I upped it to every thirty minutes. What a blessing. Normally on a day like this, I’d be in a constant state of urgency and frantic action, so stressed that I’d attack anyone or anything that got in my way.
Instead, my “slow down” routine kept me calm, focused, and at a steady pace. Even when I was interrupted, it wasn’t the jolt to my senses like usual. I would calmly address it and continue on. I’ll admit the ego mind tried a few times to take over—thankfully, usually around the time my alarm went off. Whew, saved by the bell.
I’m not sure I’d call my experience today “love.” It was definitely more peaceful. And as for my trip, my tea bag tag from last night says it best:
“Travel in grace knowing that you are protected by love.” I’ll cross out “protected by,” then tape it to my steering wheel.
