Message
From the Lesson:
“We teach today what we would learn, and that alone. ²And so our learning goal becomes an unconflicted one, and possible of easy reach and quick accomplishment.” (ACIM, W-296.2:1-3)
As I’ve done since Lesson 292, I used my new mantra: slow down. I set my smartwatch to go off every 30 minutes, reminding me to stop, be present, breathe, and choose Divine Mind over ego mind. For today’s Lesson, it also helped me remember to let the Holy Spirit speak through me.
I’m not sure whether it was because I’d set the intention to practice the Lesson, but it seemed that everyone I encountered was friendly. Maybe I was giving off some kind of energy that encouraged friendliness. Or maybe my intention influenced how I perceived everyone.
For instance, while walking through the downtown area of a quaint town I’m visiting, I spotted a music shop selling sheet music and small instruments. I picked out a few things and went to the checkout counter. The person at the register explained that she was filling in for the shop owner and worried she was holding me up because she was struggling with the computer. I calmly reassured her that it was okay and encouraged her to take whatever time she needed. Once she relaxed, we had a delightful conversation about the town, the shop, and the weather. The whole interaction felt easy and peaceful.
Perhaps the difference wasn’t that everyone was friendlier, but that slowing down allowed me to meet them without the usual judgments or expectations.
That’s pretty much how my entire day went. It reminds me that this is a practice worth continuing, not just occasionally, but every day.
