This week’s MotD Theme: A MAZE Zing Journey
In Tonopah, Nevada, SolarReserve built the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Facility. It’s the first utility-scale facility in the world to feature advanced molten salt power tower energy storage capabilities.
Even though it clearly serves an industrial, utilitarian purpose, it also serves as a fascinating maze-like art piece; a collaboration of art and science. Check out how they displayed it as an art video at Lincoln Center in NYC.
From their web site it states:
The project delivers enough firm, reliable electricity from solar energy to power 75,000 homes in Nevada during peak demand periods, day and night, whether or not the sun is shining. The project, which entered into commercial operation in late 2015 and delivers 110 megawatts of electricity plus 1,100 megawatt-hours of energy storage, is the only operating utility scale molten salt power tower on the planet.
While the overall project itself forms a mandala-like structure, so too can we find mandala shapes (35) behind each of the 10,347, 37′ x 34′ mirror panels (heliostats)…for a total 362,145 mandalas!

For more information about this facility, how it helps support the local community, and how the energy collection process works, check out their online digital brochure.
Inspiration For Today
Today’s MotD represents the concept of the group acting as one united entity, working together in community for one purpose. It reminds us of the value of community and working with others with one common goal; whether it be utilitarian or artistic in nature.
Happy Coloring!
If you would want your mandala or your idea for a mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read about how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
