My progress for today:

So this one is a bit different from what I usually do. I’ve been commissioned to create a book cover for a book of poems by a local poet. Today I played with it and sent her four sample back covers; this is the fourth one (an my personal favorite). To create this I used existing artwork, an existing mandala design, and photoshop elements.
Image #1 shows a scan of my original poured ink “happenings” art entitled “Blue Angels“. This will be the background.
Image #2 shows an inverse design of “Soulscape” (white lines instead of black) which was the August 2017 Mandala of the Month as well as a couple of Mandalas of the Day as I progressed with coloring it.
Image #3 shows what I came up with after playing around with some fun tools in photoshop.
Image #4 shows it all coming together. I cropped the background to fit the book dimensions, then added the mandala layer on top. I really like how “Soulscape” looks like a fully bloomed flower with bright blue energy spraying outward while seeming to sit upon a cosmic nebula stem.
The bottom half of the cover will have a poem, her logo & website info, and the ISBN bar code. I really hope she goes with this one. 🙂
About the Mandalas of the Day:
I post a variety of in-progress art for that day which can include mandalas from the Mandala of the Week, the Mandala of the Month, the Mandala of the Year, or the Mandala Meditation Stones.
Happy Coloring!
joyfully, Maureen
