22-009 Heart

Today’s Mandala
You Gotta Have Heart

You’ve gotta have heart
All you really need is heart
When the odds are sayin’ you’ll never win
That’s when the grin should start
You’ve gotta have hope
Mustn’t sit around and mope
Nothin’s half as bad as it may appear
Wait’ll next year and hope
When your luck is battin’ zero
Get your chin up off the floor
Mister you can be a hero
You can open any door,

there’s nothin’ to it but to do it
You’ve gotta have heart
Miles ‘n miles n’ miles of heart
Oh, it’s fine to be a genius of course
But keep that old horse
Before the cart
First you’ve gotta have heart

– Richard Adler and Jerry Ross
from the musical ”Damn Yankees”

When I first sat down to work on this piece, I stared at it and waited for the inspiration to start. The image of a big heart (the one with nothing inside) made itself known first. Then I realized that heart shapes existed all throughout this piece. The whole time drawing them I kept hearing the song ”you gotta have heart” playing over and over again in my head. I looked up the lyrics and thought ”ah ha, this is the message for today”.

In all that we do ”we gotta have heart”, to come from the place of our hearts. It’s what gives us meaning, inspiration, and hope. The lyrics may be geared toward playing baseball, however it applies in all areas of our lives.

Blessings,

btw…this is how it started… see if you can spot the heart shapes…maybe even ones I missed.
