23-043 Goals #1

This week we look at Principle #7 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Unleash the Power of Goal-Setting”. While coloring today I set the intention to ponder what goal setting has been for me in the past. Honestly, I don’t remember actually setting goals, per se. I would have an idea to go after something and do so but I don’t recall naming them as goals. I think I have an aversion to the word goals. Maybe because they seem so serious and sound like they require major commitment. Goals are something a job interviewer (or your boss) would ask you to list about your future.

Over the last decade or so, it feels as if I’ve taken a more impulsive approach to going after what I want; making my life seem more zig-zagging than planned. With this new-to-me principle, I will allow myself to be open-minded about goals and goal-setting.

As a side bar: In looking at the coloring of this version of this week’s mandala, two things come to mind:

1) I was concerned about the somewhat simplistic look of the design, wondering if is it going to be interesting to color. So today it inspired me to use pen and ink and I have to admit it was fun to play with all the open spaces (negative spaces) giving me a greater opportunity to be creative.

2) A lot of symbolism jumps out at me. 1) so many balls in the air (lack of direction and planning; 2) long and meandering (zig-zagging?) road on outside ring and inner ring; 3) on the outer ring, the short horizontal lines look like steps leading out of there; and 4) until I was ready to color it today, I didn’t realize that the mandala has seven sections and this is principle #7 (a little bit of synchronicity).

So how about you? How do you feel about setting goals? Do you do them? What goals have plagued you for years that you have yet to achieve? Why do you think that is? I ask bc I have quite a few.

If you set goals
and go after them
with all the determination
you can muster,
your gifts will take you places
that will amaze you.
