Optimistic

“taking a favorable view of events or conditions and expecting the most favorable outcome”

After years of therapy and seeing evidence of it being of value, I’m generally optimistic. Although with all that’s going on in the world these days, that mindset is being tested. In that regard, I like to follow “good news” posts on social media…to remind me that most people are kind and helpful. I mean…just look at youtube alone…almost anything you want to know how to do is freely available by well-meaning people.

Anyway…about being optimistic…on a personal level. For those of you who shy away from being optimistic…that you’d rather be realistic…you mean negative???…take a honest look at your life…I bet you’ll find that more things turned out in your favor than not. Heck, you’re still here aren’t you?

But even of the things that didn’t go your way initially, I bet most of them ended up being a better outcome in the long run. Although my husband would argue that his brother getting married the same weekend he could have gone to Woodstock (back in the olden days) was not a favorable outcome for him…but who knows what would have happened had he gone…just sayin’.

We’re not being asked to be pollyannas (google it). We’re being encouraged to adopt an optimistic mindset. Just for the heck of it I asked ChatGPT to list the benefits of being optimistic, here are a few of them:

  • Optimists experience lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress
  • Optimists are better equipped to handle setbacks and challenges, often viewing them as temporary and surmountable
  • Optimists often set higher goals and persist in the face of difficulties, leading to higher achievements
  • Optimists focus on solutions rather than problems
  • Optimists can foster creativity and a willingness to try new things

Essentially, being optimistic improves our overall quality of life.

How about you? Is being optimistic a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
