Lesson 118: ”Review: God’s peace and joy are mine; Let me be still and listen to the truth.”
AI Reframe: Peace is inherent to me, and stillness reveals truth.
Suggested Practice:
Devote five minutes twice a day, or longer, to considering the thoughts that are assigned today. Read over the ideas and comments that are written with each. Then think about them while letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems, and all your concerns.
Today’s Ideas:
God’s* peace and joy are mine.
“Today I will accept God’s peace and joy, in glad exchange for all the substitutes that I have made for happiness and peace.”
and
Let me be still and listen to the truth.
“Let my own feeble voice be still, and let me hear the mighty Voice for Truth Itself assure me that I am God’s perfect [Creation].” (ACIM, W-118.1:1–2:2)
Then throughout the day, hourly if possible, give the two ideas a brief review: one at the top of the hour, one at the bottom. Conclude each period restating the idea for that part of the hour.
As a reminder, these practices are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.
* The Course defines God as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.

Message
I struggle a bit with accepting that peace and joy are mine. This likely stems from a false belief about my worthiness to receive anything positive. Case in point: during Catholic mass, parishioners recite, “Lord, I’m not worthy to receive you.” I said that weekly for over 20 years. As a recovering Catholic, I now only attend wedding and funeral masses. When I do, I say aloud: “Lord, I AM worthy to receive you.”
With that in mind, I did today’s practice and received a vision. A June Cleaver type woman held a plate of fresh cookies labeled “peace and joy.” Children took cookies one by one. I stood to the side, feeling they should go first. June signaled me to take one. I shook my head and said I’d get one later if any were left.
That’s sad, I know. But that’s how I was trained—not just by the church but by most adults in my life. Therapy and self-reflection have helped my sense of worthiness, but crumbs still linger.
So I went back into the practice to “be still and listen.” Instead of a vision, I felt a warm, glowing sensation in my solar plexus and heart. Then this thought came: If love is the answer, what’s the question?
Out of curiosity, I asked AI. DeepSeek said: “What makes the world go round?” With ChatGPT, we had a delightful, yet lengthy discussion (full exchange linked here), with my favorite part leading to this:
How does love want to show up in this moment?
In all of our exchanges, “peace and joy” can be substituted for the word “love.”
Bringing this back to Lesson 118: I am willing to accept that God’s peace and joy are mine. I allow myself to eat the cookie. And in any moment, I can be still and listen for the answer to this question:
How does my peace and joy want to show up in this moment?
“I gladly exchange my pretend world for peace and joy.”
