Lesson 119: ”Review: Truth will correct all errors in my mind; To give and to receive are one in truth.”
AI Reframe: Clarity corrects misunderstanding, and giving and receiving are the same.
Suggested Practice:
Devote five minutes twice a day, or longer, to considering the thoughts that are assigned today. Read over the ideas and comments that are written with each. Then think about them while letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems, and all your concerns.
Today’s Ideas:
Truth will correct all errors in my mind.
I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in any way.
I am God’s Son*, whose Self** rests safely in the Mind of God***.
and
To give and to receive are one in truth.
I will forgive all things today, that I may learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to recognize my sinlessness. (ACIM, W-119.1:1–2:2)
Then throughout the day, hourly if possible, give the two ideas a brief review: one at the top of the hour, one at the bottom. Conclude each period restating the idea for that part of the hour.
As a reminder, these practices are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.
* “God’s Son” — Instead of a hierarchical title, this emphasizes our shared humanity and our equal role in each other’s salvation—to see the world, and everyone in it, through the eyes of love, thereby waking up from the dream of separation.
** Self — the higher collective consciousness of which we belong
*** The Course defines God as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.

Message
The common denominator of these two ideas is truth. We’re reminded about the truth of who we are and the truth about our existence in Divine form and human form.
Here’s a personal story that may help with understanding these two ideas.
Whenever I am in the kitchen preparing some food, my husband would sometimes come in and innocently as me “Whatcha cookin’?” I immediately feel triggered and lash out at him. He in turn becomes angry and storms out of the room. Now, we’re both hurt and confused wondering what the heck just happened. I’m not even sure what the trigger is. I think it has something to do with an outmoded fear/belief that whatever I’m making will be taken away from me.
Then one day, while preparing food, my husband comes in as usual and asks “Whatcha cookin’?” I was instantly triggered but THEN I paused and the observer in me noticed the anger. I turned to him and calmly said, “Right now a part of me is so angered by your question. It’s weird.” All he could say was “I don’t know what to do with that.” I said “me neither, but it is interesting”. This time, we survived the interaction without hurt or anger. Peace prevailed.
In scene 1, I had anger (unconscious, unidentified). So anger is what 8 gave. And what I gave, I also received—because I felt it fully as lashing out.
In scene 2, I had awareness and honesty (I noticed the anger without becoming it). So that’s what I gave. And what I gave, I also received—clarity and peace.
By taking that extra moment before acting on my usual pattern, I allowed myself to acknowledge the truth of the matter. Because of free will I had the option to identify as angry and lash out (receiving and giving) or I could change my identity to observer, acknowledging that a part of me without acting on it, and instead be at peace and extending that instead (receiving and giving).
To use an example provided by DeepSeek (AI):
Cause and Effect: When I smiled at her, I felt happier a moment later.
Effect and Cause: The smiling was the happiness.
In essence, ‘giving and receiving are one’ just means you can’t give what you don’t have. Look at what you’re actually giving—that’s what you’re living with, too. And that’s the truth.
“Any time love’s opposite rears its illusory head, I reach for my wand of love and know NOTHING can ever defeat it.”
