Lesson 143: Review of Lessons 125 and 126

AI Reframe: My awareness retains only what aligns with truth: stillness and extension.

Suggested Practice:
Two five-minute sessions: morning and evening. Start each session by opening your mind and clearing it of all thoughts that would deceive, and let this thought alone engage your mind fully, and remove the rest:

My mind holds only what I think with God*.

Then read each of today’s review ideas:

125: In quiet I receive God’s Word today.
126: All that I give is given to myself.

Close your eyes and say them slowly to yourself. Let each idea give you the gift that He* has laid in it for you. Then close the practice with the first idea.

Throughout the day, each hour, bring to mind today’s main idea and two review ideas. Spend a quiet moment with them without adding any other thoughts.

*God: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.

Message

In doing the morning practice for today, I first focused on the main theme: My mind holds only what I think with God. My mind instantly cleared of ego chatter. I sensed that as long as I stay in this space, I would know my next step, without confusion or judgment.

At the same time, I could sense my ego-mind voicing its opinion: “Whatever it is, it’s going to be hard.” “I know I’m not going to want to do it.” “Are you sure? Wouldn’t it be more fun to play 10×10 on AARP’s website?”

Having gone through enough of these lessons, I’m keenly aware of the ego’s traps, yet I still take an extra moment to debate whose voice to listen to. This morning, instead of doing the practice, I first did five older Wordle puzzles. My ego was happy because I got all five correct.

Then, like a loving parent, the Inner Voice called me back to do the practice and write my message. So here I am.

Regarding the first review idea—In quiet I receive God’s Word today—after taking a deep breath, I heard: “Be still and know.” Simple yet spot on. It ties directly to the main theme. When I stop, breathe, and check in, I receive clarity about my next step. When I don’t, I’m scrambling, pulled in different directions, accomplishing nothing—or doom-scrolling for six hours.

The second review idea—All that I give is given to myself—gave me a visual. I saw a line of people, all holding unlit candles. My candle is lit. One by one, I light theirs, aware that my light holds steady. There was a stillness about all of us—me, the people whose candles were already lit, and the ones awaiting their lighting. It felt like a sacred ritual. I felt happy seeing their faces light up.

This reminds me that we cannot give what we don’t already have. Beyond physical objects, this applies to mindset. We cannot give anger, fear, or resentment without first feeling them. Likewise, we cannot give peace, love, or joy without already feeling them. So it behooves us to be ever aware of what’s going on internally: Are we abiding by the ego mind or the Divine mind?

All of this comes back to what I received this morning: Be still and know.

“The brain, as cool as it is, mainly serves as a reducing valve. …it screens out most of life’s wonderment.”
