Lesson 221: ”Peace to my mind. Let all my thoughts be still.”

Reframe: I invite stillness and calm to my mind.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Practice once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
[feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best]

“Father, I come to You today to seek the peace that You alone can give. ²I come in silence. ³In the quiet of my heart, the deep recesses of my mind, I wait and listen for Your Voice. ⁴My Father, speak to me today. ⁵I come to hear Your Voice in silence and in certainty and love, sure You will hear my call and answer me.” (ACIM, W-221.1:1-5)

From the PART II IntroductionRead the whole introduction here.
Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

For Lessons 221-230: Forgiveness is the theme. Read the whole article here.
Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.1.1:1-7)

Message

Today starts a shift in how we practice for the next 140 Lessons. We’re asked to focus less on the words and more on the experience they generate—the energy behind them. We read, then wait in quiet for God/Universe/Source to come forward.

Another change: themes are now introduced for each set of 10 Lessons. This week’s theme is “What is Forgiveness?” Odd that they bring it up now, since most previous Lessons have referenced “forgiveness” as if we already know what it means. It’s well worth the read, especially if you struggle with the concept.

As for the practice, I had to keep overriding my ego mind, which insisted I pay attention to it and the million other things I could be doing instead of letting my thoughts be still. I kept repeating “peace to my mind,” giving myself more space between each repetition until I felt myself become still in both body and mind.

Since these Lessons are meant to be experiential, results will vary each time, and my experience may differ from yours. For me, once the monkey mind got out of the way, I felt much calmer. My breathing slowed. I stopped fretting about what I’d do afterwards. Physically, I felt a gentle pressure at the top of my head and behind the space between my eyebrows.

I was a bit distracted waiting to hear the Voice of God, as noted in the prayer. When I let that thought go, that’s when I heard “There you are” and saw an image of a gold medal ribbon being placed around my neck. It lasted only a moment, but the peace I felt was deep and real.

As I continue with the suggested practice throughout the day, I hope it gets easier and lasts longer each time. I want my mind at peace.

“I recognize that happiness and everything I seek is already within me.”
