Lesson 222: ”God is with me. I live and move in Him.”

Reframe: I am supported by the flow of love and life around me.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“Father, we have no words except Your Name upon our lips and in our minds, as we come quietly into Your Presence now, and ask to rest with You in peace a while.” (ACIM, W-222.2:1)

From the PART II IntroductionRead the whole introduction here.

Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

For Lessons 221-230: Forgiveness is the theme. Read the whole article here.
“Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.1.1:1-7)

Message

This is another lesson that triggers me. I’m fine with the first part: God is with me—especially when I think of God as the infinite principle of pure Love. It’s the second part: I live and move in Him. Having dealt with varying degrees of misogyny for over 70 years, I can’t buy into that statement unless I replace “Him” with “Love” or “Divine Love.”

Once I squared that away, I changed the practice. Instead of sitting in stillness for 10–15 minutes, I applied the second sentence as I moved through my day: morning walk, coloring this week’s Mandala, errands, visiting a friend.

While on my walk this morning, I caught myself struggling. My ego kept pulling me into the past about an incident that happened yesterday or pushing me into the future worrying about what I was going to do later. When that would happen, I reminded myself of today’s Lesson and recited, “God is with me. I live and move in Divine Love.” When I did, my senses came alive. I became more aware of my surroundings. I even started high-fiving tree branches that were low enough for me to reach.

In that moment, I also realized: to live this lesson—this Course—requires present-moment awareness. The ego’s world revolves around grievances about the past or fears about the future. Which brings up another core principle: time is an illusion. All we have is now.

For the rest of the day, as often as I remembered, I focused on being mindful of my thoughts, recited today’s idea, and allowed myself to live and move in Divine Love.

“Love is my reality. It’s in the air I breathe, the food I eat, the water that renews and cleanses me.”
