Lesson 241: ”This holy instant is salvation come.”
Reframe: This present moment is an opportunity for release and renewal.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“We have forgiven one another now, and so we come at last to You again. ²Father, Your Son, who never left, returns to Heaven and his home. ³How glad are we to have our sanity restored to us, and to remember that we all are one.” (ACIM, W-241.2:1-3)
OR… “I see the Light. We all are one.”
For Lessons 241-250: What is the World? is the theme. Read the whole article here.
”The world is false perception. ²It is born of error, and it has not left its source. … The world was made as an attack on God. ²It symbolizes fear. ³And what is fear except love’s absence? … ⁵Yet everything that they report is but illusion which is kept apart from truth. … As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. ²Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world [that’s us]. ³Follow His light…Hear His Voice…let Him give you peace and certainty…⁴We must save the world.
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
From the Lesson:
”What joy there is today! ²It is a time of special celebration. ³For today holds out the instant to the darkened world where its release is set. ⁴The day has come when sorrows pass away and pain is gone. ⁵The glory of salvation dawns today upon a world set free. ⁶This is the time of hope for countless millions. ⁷They will be united now, as you forgive them all. ⁸For I will be forgiven by you today.” (ACIM, W-241.1:1-8)
I’m not going to lie—this Lesson is challenging to take in with all the suffering appearing in the world today. As I say that, I realize most stories we consume are about something bad happening. They trigger fear, anger, or sadness. Why? Because bad news sells, and our ego minds thrive on it. As long as we let ego mind rule our thoughts, we maintain this world of illusion with all its fears, limiting beliefs, and grievances.
This sounds awful, doesn’t it? Well, I have good news. We can change it via the holy instant: that moment when we shift our perception from illusion to truth. How we see the world and everyone in it can change in an instant to one of peace, love, and joy—our salvation.
Sure, that’s easy for me to say sitting safely in my home with all its comforts. You’d think experiencing a holy instant would be easier to do here. And yet the ego mind thrives here too, with guilt about my good fortune while others suffer, and fear that it could all happen to me or people close to me. The ego mind is clever that way.
Right now, I’m aware my ego mind is in full swing: “How can you write about ‘what joy there is today’ when thousands of people’s lives were destroyed by horrific floods, fires, and earthquakes?” “How can you be at peace when countries are at war, when fascism and hatred are on the rise?” “How are you supposed to write about choosing Divine mind when you keep choosing otherwise?”
So I went for my morning walk. Mulling over the Lesson, I asked Holy Spirit to help me see my situation differently. Then I remembered what Mister Rogers told children when scared: “Look for the helpers.” Modifying that, I looked for what brings me joy: the beautiful old trees, the brilliant blue sky, the perfect walking temperature, the birds chattering, thinking of my neighbors as I passed their homes, munching on wild blackberries along the street. It gave me cause to celebrate my neighborhood.
Focusing on what brings me joy brought me closer to peace. It let me work on my art projects and go about my day. It didn’t completely stop me from thinking about what others are going through, but it let me find reasons to celebrate. And since time is also an illusion, who cares if my holy instant took a couple of hours.
“In Spirit, any good that happens anywhere is also mine to enjoy.”
