Lesson 256: ”God is the only goal I have today.”

From now on: 
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day. 

Prayer For today:

“And so, our Father, would we come to You in Your appointed way. ²We have no goal except to hear Your Voice, and find the way Your sacred Word has pointed out to us.” (ACIM, W-256.2:1-2)

Message

From the Lesson:

”…we can dream we have forgiven him in whom all sin remains impossible, and it is this we choose to dream today. ⁹God is our goal; forgiveness is the means by which our minds return to Him at last.” (ACIM, W-256.1:8-9)

In essence, this Lesson encourages us to align with love and a higher truth today—in the Course’s terms: God. We do this through forgiveness of ourselves and others for sins we’ve perceived as having been committed.

The Lesson mentions sin and forgiveness, so a quick reminder of the Course’s view on each. Sin, in the Course’s terms, is an illusion—it doesn’t exist in God’s realm, only in the ego mind. Forgiveness is how we choose to see differently: instead of seeing sin in ourselves and others, we see our collective Light, which is God.

So how does this translate in our day-to-day lives? For me, I went about my day consciously choosing to align with love and a higher truth: love being God and a higher truth being that we are all a child of God, whole and complete.

For example, throughout my morning walk, I repeated the phrase “I align myself with love and truth.” In my body I felt uplifted and light. My senses were heightened. In my mind I felt open and present. While the Course tells us this world is an illusion, by affirming this Lesson, I understood, for a little while anyway, the concept of heaven on earth. In this state, I became very aware of the vibrancy of everything around me—especially the colors, trees, crows, squirrels, and a whole host of smaller birds going about their day.

I felt connected to everything rather than separate, which is what I understand the Course to mean when it says: God is the only goal I have today.
