Lesson 303 ”The holy Christ is born in me today.”
Reframe: I awaken to my true, loving, and whole nature today.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Your Son is welcome, Father. ²He has come to save me from the evil self I made. ³He is the Self that You have given me.⁴He is but what I really am in truth. ⁵He is the Son You love above all things. ⁶He is my Self as You created me. ⁷It is not Christ that can be crucified. ⁸Safe in Your Arms let me receive Your Son.” (ACIM, W-303.2:1-8)
OR… “I awaken myself to my true Self.”
For Lessons 301-310: What is the second coming? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ’s Second Coming, which is sure as God, is merely the correction of mistakes, and the return of sanity. ²It is a part of the condition that restores the never lost, and re-establishes what is forever and forever true. ³It is the invitation to God’s Word to take illusion’s place; the willingness to let forgiveness rest upon all things without exception and without reserve.” (ACIM, W-pII.9.1:1-3).
OR put another way…
”It’s when we fully embrace our true identity, that we are love personified and as such we are whole and complete just as we are.”
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
I had to go back and reread how the Course defines “Christ” because it triggers memories of my strict religious upbringing—which means my ego mind is engaged right now. Here’s the definition I went back to:
“Christ is God’s Son as He created Him. He is the Self we share, uniting us with one another, and with God as well.” — From “What is the Christ?” (ACIM, W-pII.6.1:1-2)
Like a panicked child, I had to calm my ego with phrases like: “it’s okay, it’s just a word,” “breathe,” “let’s look up what it really means.” Once I was calm, I could look at this Lesson from a Divine perspective.
Here’s how I understand “Christ” and its use in today’s Lesson. In our purest, truest, highest form—beyond our human bodies—we are all One with everyone. Collectively we are the Son of God, Christ, the Self: different terms, same identity.
The Lesson puts this idea straight in our faces today. Instead of holding fast to the illusions of our human experience, we are encouraged to birth our true holy nature while going about our lives on this earthly plane. Not only is this true for me, it’s true for everyone else—yes, even the most vile people our ego minds judge.
With that in mind, I set up my practice for the day. To avoid triggering my easily panicked ego, I exchanged “Christ” with “Light.” Whenever I saw my reflection in a mirror, I recited: the Light is born in me today. Whenever I saw or thought about other people, I recited: the Light born in me sees the Light born in you.
Whether I was saying it to myself or to others, I found it blocked any thoughts the ego wanted to share. And even when I didn’t say it, I noticed my interactions with others were lighter and calmer.
Today I accidentally broke the passenger side mirror on my car. All the way to the dealership, I kept repeating “the Light is born in me today” to override the ego’s fearful thoughts. By the time I arrived, I was calm as I described what happened to Garrett, the service guy.
While he went to write up an estimate, it was all I could do to keep the ego thoughts at bay—thoughts like “how could you have been so stupid?”, “wait until Gerry finds out about it,” and “this is going to cost a lot of money.” To stay present, I began using my mantra for other people with everyone I saw walking in and around the service center. This helped ward off the ego thoughts and kept me in my own Light.
When Garrett returned with the estimate, instead of freaking out as I would have in the past, I graciously accepted it and trusted that, with Divine’s help, I’d be able to handle this whole process.
Changing the wording didn’t change the practice. I was still birthing the Christ in me, just under a name my ego could tolerate. And by doing so, I handled a situation that would have otherwise ruined my day.
“To escape the straitjacket of the relentless news media, I simply change the question. Instead of asking ‘What’s wrong?” I ask the ongoing question that re-ups everything: ‘What’s right? What am I thankful for?” — “The Course in Miracles Experiment” by Pam Grout
