Lesson 304 ”Let not my world obscure the sight of Christ.”

Reframe: I release distractions so I can perceive truth and love clearly.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“You lead me from the darkness to the light; from sin to holiness. ²Let me forgive, and thus receive salvation for the world.³It is Your gift, my Father, given me to offer to Your holy Son, that he may find again the memory of You, and of Your Son as You created him.” (ACIM, W-304.2:1-3)

OR… “I shine my Light so others can remember theirs.”

For Lessons 301-310: What is the second coming? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ’s Second Coming, which is sure as God, is merely the correction of mistakes, and the return of sanity. ²It is a part of the condition that restores the never lost, and re-establishes what is forever and forever true. ³It is the invitation to God’s Word to take illusion’s place; the willingness to let forgiveness rest upon all things without exception and without reserve.” (ACIM, W-pII.9.1:1-3).

OR put another way…

”It’s when we fully embrace our true identity, that we are love personified and as such we are whole and complete just as we are.”

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

From the Lesson:

“Perception is a mirror, not a fact. And what I look on is my state of mind, reflected outward.” (ACIM, W-304.1:3-5)

If we could grasp just one idea from the whole Course—text, workbook, and manual for teachers—this one alone would dramatically change our lives. Judging anything or anyone outside ourselves is wasted energy. It reminds me of the adage that when you point a finger at someone else, three point back at you. Taking that to heart, we’d have to ask: what’s my part in this?

Checking our state of mind is everything. If two people walk into a room full of people socializing—one dreading it, one looking forward to it—who enjoys it more? Same room, same people, yet they perceive it differently. The inward sets up the outward.

It’s like I said in Lesson 298 about visiting fancy galleries that day. In the past, my mindset would have been intimidation and guilt—intimidation because I couldn’t afford to buy anything, guilt because I’d be taking up the gallery owners’ time knowing I couldn’t buy anything. Looking at this now, I see my perception of walking into a gallery wasn’t based on fact; it was based on my state of mind.

Several things helped shift my mindset beforehand. Encouragement from three friends I spoke with separately helped me see value in my art that I tended to downplay. I also attended a couple of online spiritual self-help events that helped me work through limiting beliefs about my art and my attitude toward galleries.

So last Sunday I upgraded my mindset to curiosity and exploration—curiosity about the quality of art that meets these galleries’ standards, and exploration of potential galleries that might curate my mandala later. This time I saw galleries as possible resources. Instead of leading with fear, I led with my Light and had a delightful time. Nothing about the galleries changed—they were neutral. How I saw them changed because I changed my state of mind.

I could go back tomorrow with a different mindset and have a completely different experience, even though nothing about the galleries changed. Same art on the walls and pedestals, same curators, same decor.

It’s like my progress on the Mandala of the Week (above). The three sections I’ve painted so far are the exact same design, yet all three are different because I changed the placement of the same six colors, giving each a different look.

So the Lesson’s message is direct: our mindset determines our experience. When we align our state of mind with Divine Mind, we experience the sight of Christ.
