Lesson 306 ”The gift of Christ is all I seek today.”

Reframe: I welcome love, clarity, and presence as my guide today.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. ²In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. ³We cannot make an offering sufficient for Your Son. ⁴But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his.” (ACIM, W-306.2:1-4)

OR… “I open my heart and mind to receive Love.”

For Lessons 301-310: What is the second coming? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ’s Second Coming, which is sure as God, is merely the correction of mistakes, and the return of sanity. ²It is a part of the condition that restores the never lost, and re-establishes what is forever and forever true. ³It is the invitation to God’s Word to take illusion’s place; the willingness to let forgiveness rest upon all things without exception and without reserve.” (ACIM, W-pII.9.1:1-3).

OR put another way…

”It’s when we fully embrace our true identity, that we are love personified and as such we are whole and complete just as we are.”

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

“³Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace.” (ACIM, W-306.1:3)

When most people think of fear, they think of phobias: public speaking, heights, flying, snakes, and so on. In the Course’s view, though, fear takes many forms, including limiting beliefs, grievances, and judgments.

Lately, I’ve come to recognize a new form of fear, at least for me: a sense of urgency. In almost everything I do, some part of me—most likely my ego mind—seems to say, “You’d better hurry up, or else.” In childhood, that “or else” meant being afraid of getting in trouble with one or both of my parents: “You’d better finish your chores before Mom gets home.” During my school years, it was, “You’d better finish writing that book report—it’s due tomorrow. You don’t want to fail the class.” As an adult, it became, “You’d better finish that project on time, or the boss might fire you.”

Recognizing this “hurry up” form of fear later in life has made it a bit more challenging to move past, mainly because it’s become a deeply ingrained habit. While doing Lesson 292, I came up with a countermeasure: the mantra “slow down.” Ever since then, I’ve set my smartwatch timer to go off every 30 minutes throughout the day. When it does, I tell myself to slow down, take a deep breath, and assess my state of mind. Am I operating from a “hurry up” mindset (ego mind) or a peaceful one (Divine Mind)? The timer has shown me how often I’m in “hurry up” mode, and that awareness gives me a chance to shift. By the end of the day, I’m usually much more at peace. I’ve also noticed that I walk more slowly and mindfully. When I’m hurrying from one place to another, I tend to bump into things, drop things, and set things down without thinking—then struggle to find them later.

When I catch myself in ego mind and its fear-based “hurry up” thoughts, I remind myself that I can slow down and go past all fear and, as this Lesson teaches, be “redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.”(ACIM, W-306.1:4)
