Lesson 308 ”This instant is the only time there is.”

Reframe: I focus fully on the present—the only moment of true power.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
Once in the morning and once in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

“Thanks for this instant, Father. ²It is now I am redeemed. ³This instant is the time You have appointed for Your Son’s release, and for salvation of the world in him.” (ACIM, W-308.2:1-3)

OR… “I can know peace in this moment.”

For Lessons 301-310: What is the second coming? is the theme for the next 10 days. Read the whole article here.
”Christ’s Second Coming, which is sure as God, is merely the correction of mistakes, and the return of sanity. ²It is a part of the condition that restores the never lost, and re-establishes what is forever and forever true. ³It is the invitation to God’s Word to take illusion’s place; the willingness to let forgiveness rest upon all things without exception and without reserve.” (ACIM, W-pII.9.1:1-3).

OR put another way…

”It’s when we fully embrace our true identity, that we are love personified and as such we are whole and complete just as we are.”

From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.

“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message

“The only interval in which I can be saved from time is now. For in this instant has forgiveness come to set me free.” (ACIM, W-308.1:4-5)

In every instant we can change our minds—what the Course calls forgiveness. Actually, it’s the only time we can change our minds, to see things in a different light—Divine Light, to be exact. I can’t change it yesterday or tomorrow or even 10 minutes from now. This instant is the only time. But it takes mindfulness and consistency to remember this and monitor our current state of mind.

So throughout the day I reminded myself of today’s idea. Today was particularly challenging, though. A part needed to repair my car is on back order. The service guy said it could be a week, a month, even a year. Breathe! “I can know peace instead of this” became my mantra for the day as I searched Google for this part. It would at least bring me to neutral for a little while until I hit another roadblock. Once I found and ordered the part, mindfulness, deep breaths, and reciting the mantra became easier.

I would love to be fully present in each moment—24/7. Usually, though, I go hours before I remember that I can do that. When I’m not mindful, my default mode is letting ego mind rule—mainly out of habit—and that means hours of fear and worry running my thoughts. Setting a timer to go off every 30 minutes is a wonderful tool I use to save me in that moment: to pause, breathe, assess my state of mind, and change my mind from ego to Divine, if needed. Most times I do.

My takeaway is to keep practicing mindfulness throughout the day. And in those instances where I remember, I can choose forgiveness, since that’s the only time I can do so.
