An Act of Faith

Our focus this week — Aug 6-12: “Wait and See”

Today’s MotD: An Act of Faith. The idea of “wait and see” brings with it a couple of challenges and questions. How do we know when to “wait and see” ? What are we waiting for ? Are we waiting for something better ? Is there a potential for loss ? How long do I “wait and see” ? When will I know I’m done waiting ?

Excellent questions, all of which will take an act of faith on our part. Obviously, the more experiences we’ve had with “waiting and seeing”, the better we are at answering those challenges and questions…and the better we get at knowing when to “wait and see”.

On a light-weight level, I play the “wait and see” game when I’m out “treasure hunting” (thrifting). If I see something that grabs my attention, I may not be ready in that moment to adopt it. Often times I’ll decide to play the “wait and see” game: if it’s still there the next time I go in to that treasure store, then I’ll know it was meant for.

About half the time it’s not there and I’ll either “kick” myself for not getting it when I had the chance or I’ll just pass it off as an “oh well” item…OR…sometimes…I’ll find something even better and then be all proud of myself for having waited.

The other half of the time the item is still there. I’m either really excited and put it in my basket OR I’m still on the fence about it. Now I have to decide if I want to “wait and see” again or not. Which at this point, it’s really obvious that I need to pass on it. If I truly wanted it, I would just buy it.

On a deeper level, the last guy I ever dated before meeting and marrying my current (and last) husband, was a challenge. Early on my intuition told me that the relationship wasn’t going to last and yet I chose to stick with it to “wait and see” what happens, it could work out. While we traveled on a road trip to Arizona, the song from the movie “Heartburn” (Meryl Streep & Jack Nickolson) came on the radio: ”Coming Around Again” by Carly Simon. (LOVE this song btw…the movie ? meh)

Part of the chorus:

I know nothing stays the same (I believe in love)
But if you’re willing to play the game (I believe in love)
It will be coming around again (I believe in love)

Listening to the song, I felt my intuition again tell me that this relationship wasn’t going to work out…and reassured me that it’s okay because it will come around again. It took two more years of “waiting and seeing” before I broke up with him (no judging). Two weeks later I met my soon-to-be husband. This past June we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. So see ? Something better did come along.

How about you ? Are you willing to take a leap of faith to wait and see how something (or someone) turns out before charging into the unknown ? What determines for you how long to wait ? When waiting, do you know what you’re waiting for ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
