Lesson 106: ”Let me be still and listen to the truth.”
AI Reframe: In stillness, truth becomes clear.
Suggested Exercise:
For the first five minutes of each hour—or whenever feasible—begin with this request for your enlightenment:
I will be still and listen to the truth.
What does it mean to give and to receive?
Ask and expect an answer. Spend the five minutes listening. Reinforce the idea throughout the day as often as possible with this statement:
Let me be still and listen to the truth.
I am the messenger of God* today,
My voice is His, to give what I receive.
* The Course defines “Him/His/God” as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.

Message
Today’s lesson asks us to be still and listen—not as an end in itself, but to answer one question: What does it mean to give and to receive?
During my first five-minute practice, the answer came immediately as a vision of two people hugging. For me, it’s the ultimate example of giving and receiving—both people experience it at the same time. And in that moment, time seems to stand still as peace, love, and joy are often exchanged.
This is especially true with heart-to-heart hugs (left shoulder to left shoulder). Think about it: our hearts are only inches apart. I’ve seen it demonstrated through muscle testing that right-to-right hugs test weaker, but heart-to-heart hugs test stronger.
I couldn’t find any formal studies on hug direction and muscle testing, but it makes sense: when we line up heart-to-heart and drop our guard, we open up. And that kind of openness requires stillness first. That’s exactly the kind of giving and receiving today’s lesson asks us to investigate.
So as we practice today, we’re encouraged to seek out the meaning of giving and receiving. My understanding so far is that any way of giving that also allows us to receive is our mission. And as best I can tell, if what we give involves some variation of peace, love, and joy, that’s exactly what we’ll receive.
“Be still. Listen for truth. It’s your pilot light. And it will change everything.”
