Lesson 141: Review of Lessons 121 and 122

AI Reframe: My awareness retains only what aligns with truth: release leads to happiness.

Suggested Practice:
Two five-minute sessions: morning and evening. Start each session by opening your mind and clearing it of all thoughts that would deceive, and let this thought alone engage your mind fully, and remove the rest:

My mind holds only what I think with God.*

Then read each of today’s review ideas:

121: Forgiveness** is key to happiness.
122: Forgiveness offers everything I want.

Close your eyes and say them slowly to yourself. Let each idea give you the gift that He* has laid in it for you. Then close the practice with the first idea.

Throughout the day, each hour, bring to mind today’s main idea and two review ideas. Spend a quiet moment with them without adding any other thoughts.

*God/He: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.

** Forgiveness is an illusion with a purpose: it leads us away from other illusions and towards the light. It bridges the gap between illusion and truth. Illusions are anything the ego-mind has created that leads us away from truth, away from peace, love, and joy.

Message

It cannot be stated enough: we are, at our core, love personified. We are as Love created us. Our purest form is peace, love, and joy. Anything else is a distraction, an illusion created by our ego-minds to keep itself safe and comfortable.

When we fall prey to the ego-mind’s whims, peace, love, and joy appear lost—maybe even a struggle to find. The more we remind ourselves that we are what we seek, the more the ego’s veil is brushed aside, revealing the Truth of who we are.

How does this relate to forgiveness? The only forgiveness we need to practice is the forgiveness we offer ourselves when we’ve turned away from our Truth.

For instance, take fear about missing a connecting flight due to unexpected delays. That happened to me recently flying home from abroad. My flight was delayed 1.5 hours, so for the next 10.5 hours I vacillated between ego-mind (“Oh no, what if I miss my connection?”) and Divine mind (“Breathe, it will work out”).

Every time I caught myself in a fretful state—usually via physical symptoms—I reminded myself to choose peace instead and kindly forgave myself, without judgment or condemnation, for siding with the ego’s fears. That brought me back to neutral, and sometimes all the way to peace. I was calmer and more open to making the most of the flight rather than getting angry and taking it out on my body and everyone around me.

I wish I could say I reminded myself once and was happy-go-lucky for the rest of the flight. No—it was a repeated process. And that’s okay. The Course doesn’t expect us to get this the first, second, or even third time around. That’s why the workbook encourages us to practice, practice, practice.

BTW… in the end, it did all work out. Yes, I missed my connecting flight, but I wound up with a better flight that brought me closer to home and earlier than if I had made my original flight.

“It’s a get-out-of-jail-free card, offering instant release from the world of illusion.”
