26-200 There is No Peace Except the Peace of God

Mandala of the Day 26-200 There is no peace except the peace of God — after. Day 4 of 7 coloring this week’s Mandala of the Week 26-29

Lesson 200: ”There is no peace except the peace of God.”

Reframe: True peace comes from alignment with love and clarity.

Suggested Practice:

From the Introduction to Lessons 181-200:

Our next few lessons make a special point of firming up your willingness to make your weak commitment strong; your scattered goals blend into one intent. ²You are not asked for total dedication all the time as yet. ³But you are asked to practice now in order to attain the sense of peace such unified commitment will bestow, if only intermittently. … And so we start our journey beyond words by concentrating first on what impedes your progress still. …⁴So we now attempt to go past all defenses for a little while each day. ⁵No more than this is asked, because no more than this is needed. ⁶It will be enough to guarantee the rest will come.

Do two 15-minutes practices today.

Today we seek no idols. ²Peace can not be found in them. ³The peace of God is ours, and only this will we accept and want. ⁴Peace be to us today. ⁵For we have found a simple, happy way to leave the world of ambiguity, and to replace our shifting goals and solitary dreams with single purpose and companionship. ⁶For peace is union, if it be of God. ⁷We seek no further. ⁸We are close to home, and draw still nearer every time we say:

⁹There is no peace except the peace of God,
and I am glad and thankful it is so.

Message

In pondering today’s Lesson, I started thinking about what gives me peace in my day-to-day life. Mostly it’s nature: a beautiful sunset, a full moon on a clear night, seeing Mt. Hood on the drive to Portland, the smell of gardenias in our garden, time on the Oregon coast.

What strikes me about these moments is how fleeting they are. Once they’re over, I’m back to my usual thoughts, and the peace is gone. Until this Lesson, I hadn’t really considered how short-lived these episodes are.

From the Lesson:

“Come home. ²You have not found your happiness in foreign places and in alien forms that have no meaning to you, though you sought to make them meaningful. ³This world is not where you belong. ⁴You are a stranger here. ⁵But it is given you to find the means whereby the world no longer seems to be a prison house or jail for anyone. … But you must change your mind about the purpose of the world, if you would find escape. You will be bound till all the world is seen by you as blessed, and everyone made free of your mistakes and honored as he is. …And as you free the one, the other is accepted as he is.” (ACIM, W-200.4:1–5:5)

This pushed me to go beyond the words of today’s Lesson and really grasp what’s meant by “there is no peace except the peace of God.”

For me, it translates to this: we’re strangers in a strange land. We can experience it with the ego mindset of fear, limitation, and separation—or with the mindset of peace, where all are seen as blessed, whole, and complete. That is the peace of God.

The nature moments are still fleeting, but now I understand them as mere moments rather than sources. And now, in any given situation where the ego mind has taken charge, I can ask, “Help me see this differently?” and wait for the reply. Most times, just asking the question is enough—it means I’ve reached a neutral state where I’m willing to change my mind. And that willingness always leads to some degree of peace. Not the external, fleeting kind I get from a sunset or the coast, but the internal kind. The peace of God.

“So today, as we ponder Lesson 200, think of Ostersunds FK (Swedish football club), who accomplished the impossible by changing their mind-set, being brave, opening up to a whole new weird way of being.”
