Lesson 111: ”Review: Miracles are seen in light; Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.”

AI Reframe: Clarity reveals truth, and clarity and strength arise together.

Suggested Practice:
Devote five minutes twice a day, or longer, to considering the thoughts that are assigned today. Read over the ideas and comments that are written with each. Then think about them while letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems, and all your concerns.

Today’s Ideas:

Miracles are seen in light.

²I cannot see in darkness. ³Let the light of holiness and truth light up my mind, and let me see the innocence within.”(ACIM, W-111.1:2-3)

Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.

²I see through strength, the gift of God* to me. ³My weakness is the dark His* gift dispels, by giving me His* strength to take its place. (ACIM, W-111.2:2-3)

Then throughout the day, hourly if possible, give the two ideas a brief review: one at the top of the hour, one at the bottom. Conclude each period restating the idea for that part of the hour.

As a reminder, these practices are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.

*  The Course defines God/Him/His as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.

Message

We begin 10 days reviewing the last 20 lessons. The Course knows that what it teaches—while empowering and enlightening—can be overwhelming at times. We may have missed something the first time. Review gives us the chance to go deeper with greater insight.

Today is about miracles. Here’s what stands out to me. I can see how the Course’s view of miracles might seem trivial. But changing our mind to a higher perspective is the most powerful miracle we can manifest for ourselves. Especially when it comes to our fears and limiting beliefs—all products of the ego-mind and its desire to stay small and safe.

Generally, we tend to think of miracles as rare and reserved for a select few. They usually involve something external: walking again, finding a missing person, winning the lottery. Those are all amazing.

But the Course speaks of miracles in internal terms. How amazing would it be to be in a state of peace for a whole day? For me, that would be a miracle. And yet, all I need to do is change my mind. In Lesson 109, “I rest in God,” the practice had us take a break from ego-minded worries and rest in God instead.* Each time I said that sentence, my whole body relaxed and my thoughts slowed. I did it again just now. It still has that effect. That, to me, is a miracle. It may seem small compared to the others, but for me it’s huge.

To experience this miracle, I need awareness that I’ve let the ego-mind’s chatter take over. In that moment, I can change my mind about who I want to listen to: the ego-mind or the Divine mind. The mere act of questioning brings me to neutral—closer to my true Self. From there, the answer becomes obvious. I now have the inner strength to go to the light by saying to myself, I rest in God. I return to peace.

Miracles occur with awareness, in the light. The ego’s fears keep us in darkness. Conscious awareness of who we want in charge leads us to the light. We move from ego-mind to awareness, into light, then strength, then the Divine mind—and that brings peace, love, and joy.

Changing our minds is where the real miracles happen.
