The blue and green sections got all the attention today while I gave them a bit more depth and dimension.
My painting progress:
[Select an image for a larger view]
1 – started on the first four smaller sections of blue
2 – apply shading to another blue section
3 – add shading to the last two blue sections
4 – add shading to one of the larger green sections
5 – add shading to another large green section
6 – add shading to the last of the green sections
7 – full view of today’s progress w/o mandala
8 – full view of today’s progress with mandala temporarily in place
To produce the shading on both the blue and green sections, I used a darker shade of the base color (ultramarine blue, sap green) and permanent violet dark for the darkest shading. I used a gel medium to help with the blending of the colors.
I love how “bumpy” (3 dimensional) it looks. That’s the shading people! Look at the purple in comparison; it looks quite flat. I’ll save purple for next time.
Read about the “Behomian Sunset” Mandala as this week’s Mandala of the Week.
About the Mandalas of the Day:
I post a variety of in-progress art for that day which can include mandalas from the Mandala of the Week, the Mandala of the Month, the Mandala of the Year, or the Mandala Meditation Stones.
Happy Coloring!
joyfully, Maureen

My Mission: connecting with our Inner Light in delightful, inspiring ways
For me, creating mandalas is more than just coloring pretty patterns in a circle. I do it because my spiritual evolution and creativity require it of me. My mandala designs come about within an active meditative state, connected with my higher self, my spiritual guides and nature spirits.
Together, we bring into form, mandala art the allows me to re-connect with my own inner peace and joy, letting me explore and expand my own creative spirit to however far and in whatever direction I want to take it.
As part of my own spiritual journey, I encourage, and hopefully inspire, others to explore their own creativity, to help them re-connect with their own inner peace and joy. As a means to that end, I make all of my mandalas available for people to color. Why should I have all the fun?
